I talk a lot about arête (being your own level of excellence) and harnessing the artist within you. Now I want to tell you more about why it’s important to be present in creating your outer life and how it works more directly as a reflection of your inner life.
I call myself a creative alchemist™ because I am and always have been 100% visually expressive, and I have always either chosen or been thrown into the transformation process. I literally CANNOT understand something unless I SEE it. If it is not something physical, for me to SEE it, I must be able to ask the questions until an image formulates in my mind’s eye. As far as transformation, just read my “About” page for a teeny tiny glimpse.
Anyways, visual alchemy is more of a concept than it is a solution. It is a way of looking at things and absorbing them into your system. A philosophy of sorts if you will. When you begin to look at your life as though you have an active little artist within you that is helping you to create your outer world, you begin to understand more of how to utilize this part of you to change the direction of your life.
Let’s start with one of my favorite things, feng shui, the art of placement. I love the concept of feng shui because it makes sense to me, and it’s easy to understand. I like to use this example:
Jane has a great relationship with her mom. However, four Christmases ago, Jane’s mom gave her a figurine that Jane didn’t like; it just wasn’t her style, but she loves her mom, and the sentiment meant a lot to Jane. Jane didn’t want to get rid of it, so she placed it on the shelf up high near her front door.
What this really means: every day, for four years, Jane has walked past that figurine and all the energy associated with it. Sometimes she would look it; other times she would not. No matter, consciously or unconsciously, Jane knew it was there. Literally over her head. And every time she encountered it, consciously or unconsciously, all that energy was activated/engaged.
It would stand to reason that when you get rid of something that isn’t serving you or making you feel good, then it gives space for the things that will serve you and feel better for you.
Bottom line: If you look at it and it doesn’t make you feel good, get rid of it. Not sure if your ready to do it? Then put it in a box or a bag and stash it for a month. If you’re still thinking about it, revisit it. If not, launch it.
Today I challenge you to look at your space and make some changes. The bigger the change, the bigger the results. What do you have that you look at every day that isn’t helping your artist within create the best surroundings possible for you?
I want to hear from you! Tell me about something you got rid of today that is going to create more space for something you DO love.
