The Story of Cloakroom...It was the event of the year, the party of the season, in the desert next to Mexico. She was dressed to the nines, and he was dressed to the fours. She was waiting in line with a glass of champagne. He was waiting in line with a whiskey on the rocks. There was a loud crash behind the cloakroom door.
She set her champagne on the desktop in the hall and knocked on the door. No one answered.
He set his whiskey down on the ground and knocked on the door. No one answered.
She used her credit card to open the door.
He used his fists.
Within moments, they were standing face to face in the cloakroom, staring at each other and the shower caddy. It had fallen into the tub when the cat jumped in through the window, making a loud crash. It’s a true story of how they met. It’s one they will change little details about along the way, but they will both leave that party a little drunk and a little in love. She’ll buy him gifts on that credit card, and he’ll spend years building their lives with his bare hands. Written by©Jolene Dames.
